Services Services in the Public Good
As a non-profit organization, the Institute for Building Technology and Safety, with guidance from the five national associations that are represented on its Board of Directors, supports initiatives that provide public services in the areas of:
- Advancement of Building Safety
- Advancement of Affordable Housing
- Research and Education
IBTS' contribution to these areas may take the form of educational forums, development of guidebooks, videos or other educational materials. Projects may also include research, development of standards or software to support affordable housing or building safety. IBTS also works towards increasing better understanding of issues and implementation of better programs among local, state and federal government.
The following represent the first-hand or reported experiences of building departments from around the United States. These practices worked for these departments, and may lead to more efficient operation of any other building department.
